2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion Conducts Live-Fire Training in Ft. Pickett, Virginia
19 May 2021

2d Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion, 2d Marine Division (2d MARDIV) will be conducting a deployment for training (DFT) starting today, May 19, 2021, at Fort Pickett Maneuver Training Center, Va.

Marine LAR battalions conduct combined-arms reconnaissance and provide an amphibious force projection solution to unit commanders. A unique facet of LAR units is that unit tactics primarily involve the LAV-25 (Light Armored Vehicle-25), which is an amphibious, eight-wheeled, armored vehicle designed to transport mechanized infantry, unit commanders, vehicle recovery equipment, and various weapon systems.

Please be aware that this exercise requires Marines to drive LAV-25s from Camp Lejeune, N.C. to Fort Pickett Maneuver Training Center, Va., utilizing mostly public roadways. 2d LAR will be using these public roadways only as a means to commute from Camp Lejeune to Ft. Pickett.

For more information on this exercise, please contact 2nd Lt. Paul Ortiz at (910) 451-2074, paul.g.ortiz@usmc.mil, or 2dmardivontherecord@usmc.mil.
