Sergeant Major Aaron M. Campbell enlisted in the Marine Corps upon graduating from Westview High School in Portland, Oregon in 1996. He graduated from MCRD San Diego in June of 1997.
Upon completion of School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, California he received the MOS of 0331 machine gunner. He was assigned to Ground Defense/Security Force Windward in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. While there, he served as a post stander and Corporal of the Guard.
In September 1998, he reported to Weapons Company, Second Battalion, Fifth Marines, First Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California. While there he served as a squad leader and platoon sergeant and deployed to Okinawa with the 31st MEU.
In March 2001, Sergeant Campbell reported to First Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team (FAST) Company in Norfolk, Virginia. While there, he served as squad leader, platoon guide, and as a Close Quarter’s Battle (CQB) team member. While there, he supported several operations in Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Horn of Africa, and United Arab Emirates. His platoon also provided security for the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Baghdad, Iraq for three months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In July 2004, Sergeant Campbell reported to Lima Company, Third Battalion, Third Marines, Third Marine Division and served as the machinegun section leader in weapons platoon. In October of that year he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. While assigned to Lima Company he was deployed to Jalalabad, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon Staff Sergeant Campbell’s return from deployment, he was reassigned to Kilo Company to serve as a Rifle Platoon Sergeant and in 2006 deployed to Haditha, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In March 2007, Staff Sergeant Campbell reported to Recruiting Station Nashville, Tennessee to serve as a canvassing recruiter at Permanent Contact Station (PCS) Paris, Tennessee. In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and was subsequently reassigned to serve as the SNCOIC of Recruiting Sub Station (RSS) Franklin, Tennessee.
In April of 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Campbell reported to Kilo Company, Third Battalion, Ninth Marines, Second Marine Division. While there, he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant and deployed to Marjah, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon his return from deployment, He was promoted to First Sergeant and subsequently reassigned to serve as the Company First Sergeant for Lima Company. While there he was again deployed to Marjah, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In September 2013, First Sergeant Campbell reported to I-I Duty in Greensboro, North Carolina where he was responsible for multiple community events, funerals, and Toys for Tots in the local Piedmont area.
In January 2016, he was promoted to his current rank and received orders to VMM 266 to serve as the squadron Sergeant Major. While assigned to VMM 266 he deployed to Spain in support of Special Purpose MAGTF Crisis Response- Africa.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu fourth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star and various other service and unit awards.
Sergeant Major Campbell and his wife have been married for 10 years, and they have two daughters.
