Marines, sailors and Soldiers gathered together today to pay tribute to one of their brothers who gave his life for his country.

The service was in honor of Lance Cpl. Bobby Lee Twitty, a Bedias, Texas native. He was remembered as a selfless warrior who cared about everyone else’s morale over his own.

The ceremony began with the National Anthem. Marines from his unit placed the memorial display in the center of the stage.

“He always took the initiative,” said Lt. Col. Patrick N. Kelleher, Commanding officer of Combat Logistics Battalion 6. “He was willing and able to assist. We will honor his memory and continue the fight.”

Scripture readings and reflections were given throughout the ceremony. His detachment commander spoke highly of him.

“He had a huge heart,” said 1st Lt. Juan Turner. “What was most important to him was to see how I was doing. Bobby will forever live in our hearts. We will stay focused, we will keep the faith and we will stay the course.”

Twitty was known for always smiling and how well he treated the men he worked with.

“He was a proud Texan and he would let you know it,” said Lance Cpl. Issac Wilkins, friend of Twitty. “His heart was what made him special. He would forgive anyone for anything.”

Cpl. Edward Gonzalez, a Marine who has known him since boot camp said, “He was always smiling. I would ask him why he was smiling and all he would say is ‘because that’s what I do.’”

After the reflections, a bagpiper played an instrumental version of “Amazing Grace.” Cpl. Jeremy Post, an assistant platoon sergeant in CLB-6, read the Marines prayer.

Twitty’s decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

The memorial was concluded with the final roll call which is a final tribute paid by warriors to their fallen comrade. It represents the conviction that all unit members will be accounted for and none will ever be forgotten.
