MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. --
The 2nd Marine Division will be hosting an Eggstravaganza from 1-4 p.m. March 31st at William Pendleton Thompson Hill Field aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune to celebrate the Easter holiday with division Marines, sailors and their families.
Those in attendance will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious and free lunch while participating in a number of crafts and games with the whole family.
“There are going to be four Easter bunny mascots and a walk-around Elmo from Sesame Street helping us get 12,500 candy-filled eggs to the children,” said Ann Morey, the 2nd Marine Division family readiness officer. “They’ll be available during the entire event for pictures with the families.”
Some of the crafts and games will include egg spoon races and sack races where racers can win sweets like one of the 62 dozen cupcakes, 1,600 snack cakes and 500 popcorn balls. There will also be coloring, bunny mask and Easter basket creation stations, and six inflatable bounce houses.
“We’ve talked to the chaplains about getting us a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon, and they told us they’ll do their best,” joked Morey. “The only things families need to bring are themselves and a camera. There will be an exceptional family member area so the entire family can still enjoy the event. Pets are not allowed at the event, but service animals are safe to bring.”
This will be the third year the 2nd Marine Division will host the Eggstravaganza, and it is expected to be the biggest turnout yet, with space and food ready to serve anywhere from 3,000 to 3,500 people.
For many of the Marines and sailors who will be attending, this will be one of the first opportunities they’ve had to enjoy a free holiday lunch with their families since recently returning from a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan.
