Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Hawthorne, religious program specialist for 2nd Marine Division (Forward), watches the aircrew make final preparations to the Marine Corps UH-1Y Huey helicopter, nicknamed this day as the “Holy Helo.” The Worcester, Mass., native is part personal security detail and part detail manager for the division chaplain, Cmdr. Christopher Fronk. As the Monaca, Pa., native waits patiently in the distance, the team is ready to make its way around the area of operations and perform Mass on several forward operating and patrol bases throughout Helmand.
