MALMAND, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan – Reporting the unit’s current position while on patrol, Lance Cpl. John Torres, the platoon radio operator and native of Cheney, Wash., takes cover behind a wall March 12 during Operation Golden Shillelagh. Torres is a member of 2nd Platoon, Company K, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 8. The operation was conducted to locate and interdict possible insurgent activity in the area.
