Sergeant Major Rusty Stowers

Sergeant Major Stowers assumed his current position as the Battalion Sergeant Major of 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion on January 21, 2022.  A native of Pennsylvania, he attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, in December of 1994.

 

Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Stowers has been assigned numerous duties to include:  0331 Machine Gunner, Team Leader, and Squad Leader for 2nd Battalion 8th Marines;  Range Coach, Block Official, Marksmanship Instructor and Primary Marksmanship Instructor for Weapons Training Battalion Quantico, Virginia;  Senior Instructor for Helicopter Rope Suspension Training and Military Operations Other Than War, Instructor for Interservice Non-Lethal Individual Weapons and Oleoresin Capsicum;  Staff Sergeant, Platoon Commander and Platoon Sergeant for 2nd Battalion 6th Marines;  Gunnery Sergeant, Combat Instructor, Weapons Platoon Commander, Company Gunnery Sergeant at Bravo Company, Logistics Chief for Infantry Training Battalion (ITB), and First Sergeant for Echo Company at ITB;  First Sergeant, Alpha Company at 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, Combat Logistics Battalion 7, and Sergeant Major for Communication Training Battalion;  Sergeant Major, Marine Light attack Helicopter Squadron 169, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26, Sergeant Major for Marine Aircraft Group 14.

 

He has deployed aboard the USS Saipan on the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Mediterranean in 1996; deployed to Okinawa and served at Special Operation Training Group from 2001 thru 2004;  Deployed as a Platoon Commander to Kabul Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in 2004 and as a Platoon Sergeant to Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in 2005 with 2nd Battalion 6th Marines;  Deployed to the Upper Sangin District, Afghanistan in support of OEF in 2010 and Helmond Province, Afghanistan in support of OEF in 2011 as a Company First Sergeant with 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, Alpha Company;  Deployed to Okinawa as a Sergeant Major with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169 on a Unit Deployment Program.    

  

SgtMaj Stowers' awards include Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4) with Combat "V", Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Outstanding and the Volunteer Service Medal.
