Who we are

2D Assault Amphibian Battalion's mission is to land the surface assault element of the landing force and their equipment in a single lift from assault shipping during amphibious operations to inland objectives and to conduct mechanized operations and related combat support in subsequent operations ashore.

Lt. Col. Matthew C. Ludlow
Commanding Officer, 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion

Lieutenant Colonel Matthew C. Ludlow is a native of Memphis, Tennessee. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2000 and began his career as a Maintenance Management Specialist with 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion, deploying twice, including in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I in 2003.

Maj. Carlos Silva
Executive Officer, 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion

Major Silva entered the Marines through the Platoon Leader Class-Combined program in May 2011, completed training in August 2011, and received his commission in July 2012. He reported to The Basic School in July 2013 and graduated in January 2014. Upon graduation, Major Silva attended and graduated from the Amphibious Officer’s Course and then reported to Combat Assault Company (CAC), 3d Marine Regiment in Kaneohe Bay, Hi.

Sergeant Major Michael Manzke
Sergeant Major, 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion

Sergeant Major Manzke, a native of Blaine, Minnesota, enlisted in the Marine Corps in February 2009 and attended recruit training at Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego, California. Following recruit training, he reported to the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton for Marine Combat Training in May 2009. He subsequently attended the Aviation Structural Mechanic Common Core Course and O-Level Strand School at NATTC Pensacola, Florida, before transferring to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training at Camp Pendleton, where he earned the MOS of 6154, H-1 Airframes and Hydraulics Mechanic, in September 2009.
