Commanding Officer, 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion
Lt. Col. Matthew C. Ludlow

Lieutenant Colonel Matthew C. Ludlow is a native of Memphis, Tennessee. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2000 and began his career as a Maintenance Management Specialist with 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion, deploying twice, including in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I in 2003.


After serving as an instructor at Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools and completing assignments with 3d Marine Logistics Group in Okinawa, he was selected for the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program. He graduated from the University of Memphis in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Philosophy and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.
As an Assault Amphibian Officer, he has held a variety of leadership and staff roles, including platoon commander with Special Purpose MAGTF (Continuing Promise 2010) and the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit; company commander, operations officer, and executive officer with 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion; and acquisitions project officer at Marine Corps Systems Command. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Maneuver Captain’s Career Course and the U.S. Naval War College, where he completed the Advanced Naval Strategist Program and subsequently served as a MAGTF Planner at I Marine Expeditionary Force.


His assignments have taken him across the Fleet Marine Force and the supporting establishment, including serving as Operations and Plans Officer and Officer in Charge of the ACV Transition Training Unit at the Assault Amphibian Center of Excellence. He reported to 2d Marine Division in June 2025 to assume his current duties.
