Colonel Calvert Worth

Colonel Worth is a native of St. Louis, MO, and graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1989.  He was commissioned through the Officer Candidates Course in August 1991. 

After graduating from the Basic School and the Infantry Officer Course in 1992, he reported to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines (re-designated 2d Battalion, 6th Marines in 1994).  As a lieutenant, he served as a rifle platoon commander, weapons platoon commander, Battalion Adjutant, Weapons Co. Executive Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer during a temporary assignment to BLT 1/6. During this period, he participated in the Unit Deployment Program in 1993, deployed w/ BLT 1/6, 22nd MEU (SOC) from Jan 1995-April 1995; and deployed to the Mediterranean as part of the 26th MEU from April 1995-March 1996.

In March 1996, Colonel Worth reported for duty at the Basic School in Quantico, Va., where he served as both an instructor and Staff Platoon Commander for the Basic Officer Course.  In July 1997, he joined the staff at the Infantry Officer Course, where he served until July 1999.  Upon completion of his tour, he attended Amphibious Warfare School from August 1999 to June 2000.

From June 2000 to June 2001, Colonel Worth served as the Commanding Officer, Company C, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment.  After promotion to the rank of Major in June 2001, he served as the Battalion Operations Officer from July 2001 to June 2002, and as the battalion Executive Officer from July 2002 to June 2003.  While serving as Executive Officer, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines conducted combat operations as part of 1st Marine Expeditionary Force during Operation Iraqi Freedom-1.  Upon returning to CONUS in May 2003, Worth assumed duties as Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Detroit from July 2003 to June 2006.

In August 2006, Colonel Worth attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College followed by the School of Advance Warfighting in 2007.  He reported back to the 2d Marine Division in July 2008, where he served as the Division Training Officer until taking command of 1st Battalion, 6th Marines in January 2009.  During his tenure, the battalion deployed to Marjeh, Helmand Province, Afghanistan, and conducted combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from December 2009 to July 2010. 

Upon his return from Afghanistan, Colonel Worth attended the National War College from August 2010 to June 2011and reported to joint duty in the Pentagon where he served as Military Assistant to the Department of Defense Executive Secretary from June 2011 to June 2013.  

Colonel Worth most recently served as Director, Enlisted Professional Military Education Branch, Marine Corps University.

Colonel Worth holds Master Degrees in Military Studies and Operational Studies from Marine Corps University, and also a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University.   

His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal w/ Combat Distinguishing Device (Gold Star in lieu of second award), the Meritorious Service Medal (Gold Star in lieu of second award), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star in lieu of second award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon (Gold Star in lieu of second award)
