Sergeant Major Chamberlain enlisted in the Marine Corps during April 1995 and underwent recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. At the conclusion of recruit training, he reported to Camp Geiger, North Carolina where he underwent Marine Combat Training and then subsequently attended Military Occupational Specialty training at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama where he attained his certification as an Ammunition Technician.
Early in his career, Sergeant Major Chamberlain served as an Ammunition Technician at Camp Pendleton, California where he did tours of duty with 1st Supply Battalion and two Western Pacific cruises with MEU Service Support Group (MSSG) 15. It was during his time with MSSG-15 that Sergeant Major Chamberlain participated in Operation SOUTHERN WATCH on two separate occasions; once in Saudi Arabia during July 1997 and then again the following year in Kuwait. Upon completion of his second deployment with MSSG-15, Sergeant Major Chamberlain transferred to Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia where he served as both the Base Ammunition Chief and the Installation Explosives Safety Officer. Upon completion of his tour in Albany, Sergeant Major Chamberlain reported for duty at 3d Battalion, 10th Marines where he served as the Battalion Ammunition Chief. After serving the battalion for two years, Sergeant Major Chamberlain was appointed as a Provisional Infantry Platoon Sergeant for Company K, 3/10 for a combat deployment to Trebil, Iraq where he conducted port of entry and security operations in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM 2-2 and 4-6. Shortly after reporting for duty as the Company First Sergeant for India Company 3/2, Sergeant Major Chamberlain deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. A year later, he was given another opportunity to deploy; this time as the Company First Sergeant for Headquarters & Service Company BLT 3/2 in support of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Most recently, from December 2015 to August 2018 he served as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 2d Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
Sergeant Major Chamberlain has also served tours of duty outside of the Operating Forces. At Recruiting Station Nashville, Tennessee, he served as both a Canvassing Recruiter and Station Commander for Recruiting Sub-Station Germantown; At Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, he served as an Instructor for the Ammunition Technician Formal School; and finally, in Gulfport, Mississippi, he served as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant for Detachment 2, Maintenance Company.
Sergeant Major Chamberlain’s Professional Military Education includes the Career and Advanced Courses, First Sergeant’s Course, the 1stSgt/MSgt Regional Seminar, the Senior Enlisted Joint PME, the United States Marine Corps Senior Enlisted PME, and the Cornerstone Course.
Sergeant Major Chamberlain’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 3 gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device and 4 gold stars, and the Combat Action Ribbon with 1 gold star.
Sergeant Major Chamberlain is married to Tennille Renee Chamberlain. They have three children, a son, Adam, who is 25 years old, and two daughters, Erin and Ryan, who are 22 and 17 years old respectively.
