Sergeant Major, 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion

Sergeant Major Brent R. Sheets is a native of North Carolina. He enlisted in February 2002 and underwent recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island South Carolina, followed by Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, NC. Upon Completion of initial training, he attended Motor Transport Operators course, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.


In September of 2002 Sergeant Major Sheets reported to 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC.  In 2003 he deployed to Iraq, where his battalion participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom. After his first deployment, Sergeant Major Sheets later deployed with Bravo Company, 2d Tank Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 8 in support of Operation Iraq Freedom 03-05 and 04-06, in Falluja, Iraq.


In January of 2008 Sergeant Major Sheets reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. Upon graduation he was assigned to 3d Battalion where he completed 9 cycles as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor during his tour.  


In April of 2011, Sergeant Major Sheets reported to Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA, where served as Operations Chief and Platoon Sergeant. Sergeant Major Sheets was attached to 1st Battalion 7th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 6 and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 13.2 in the Sangin Valley of Afghanistan. Upon his return, he was reassigned to 3d Battalion 7th Marines and deployed again to the same area of operations.


From July 2014 to November 2016 Sergeant Major Sheets served with Transportation Services Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 4, Combat Logistics Regiment 3, Okinawa, Japan. He served as Operations Chief, Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant. Sergeant Major Sheets deployed in support of multiple theater security exercises across the INDOPACOM Area of Operations. 
In December of 2016, Sergeant Major Sheets received orders to 3rd Battalion 2d Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC. He served as the Company First Sergeant for Company L and returned to the INDOPACOM Area of Operations as part of the Unit Deployment Program.


Sergeant Major Sheets received orders in March of 2019 to 2d Transportation Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, Camp Lejeune, NC. While assigned he served as Company First Sergeant for Company A, supporting multiple service level training exercises throughout his tour.


In August of 2021 Sergeant Major Sheets assumed the billet as Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, Marine Air Control Group 28, 2d Marine Aviation Wing, Beaufort, SC. The unit was redesignated as a squadron as part of Force Design 2030, transforming from a detachment to an O-5 command. Sergeant Major Sheets participated in multiple service level training events, also preparing capabilities to support global force management requirements of three Geographic Combatant Commands.

Sergeant Major Sheets is married and has two sons. His personal awards include the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (one gold star), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (combat `V' and three gold stars) and the Combat Action Ribbon (one gold star).
