CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq -- Jeremy Duran stood in the heat, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders who were coming to his unit for a meet and greet session during their visit here. Lance Cpl. Duran, a wireman with 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, along with many of his fellow Marines took individual and group photos with the squad of cheerleaders. Later in the evening Duran and many of the Marines went to the base theater for a performance put on by the ladies. “It was my hometown cheerleaders, and I had a little bragging rights because none of the other guys’ hometown cheerleaders came here,” explained Duran, a Wickenburg, Ariz., native. This visit by the cheerleaders boosted the morale of the Duran and his fellow Marines who have conducted combat and stability and security operations here since early January. “It makes us feel good and helps boost morale having the famous people come to a dangerous place, showing us they care and support us,” Duran explained. They spent the early afternoon talking with the Marines, learning about their mission here, and took individual and group photos. After a long day in the heat, the cheerleaders retired to prepare for their evening performance that was delivered to a packed house of Marines, cheering them on from the moment they stepped on stage. The cheerleaders performed a routine consisting of dance routines to the current top dance club music, a limbo competition, dance off, and American Marine Idol contest. The show’s finale, a dance routine by the cheerleaders dressed in camouflaged utility uniforms, was dedicated to troops like Duran and his fellow Marines for the sacrifices they are making. “Their show was an excellent performance,” Duran stated. “It was obvious that they put much effort and many hours into preparing to perform for us.”
