MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Marines from 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division gathered in front of the regiment’s headquarters as four Bronze Stars were awarded, May 19.
Maj. Toby G. Dyer, logistics officer for Regimental Combat Team-8, 2nd Marine Division, received his award for meritorious achievement in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from July 2005 to February 2006 in Fallujah, Iraq.
“It’s an honor to receive something that commemorates the hard work of my Marines,” said Dyer, a Seattle native.
The Bronze Star is given for valor and meritorious service and is the nation’s fourth highest award.
Dyer demonstrated professional competence while providing sustained and comprehensive logistics support during counter-insurgency operations.
During the reliefs-in place between six infantry battalions, two reconnaissance battalions and eight separate companies, Dyer planned and executed logistic support that resulted in a series of synchronized unit movements while allowing the regiment to continue uninterrupted combat operations.
Dyer also coordinated timely and reliable logistics support to subordinate units across the operational area while maintaining liaison with the supporting combat logistics battalion. He worked with the battalion to ensure all forces received the logistics supported they needed.
“It was extremely rewarding and fulfilling work,” Dyer said.
His detailed planning and implementation of barrier plans during Operation Liberty Express I, an operation that mitigated the threat of insurgent attacks and encouraged the turnout of a record numbers of voters and contributed significantly to the successful Constitutional Referendum and national election.
Dyer’s emphasis on the logistical support and training of the Iraqi Security Forces was a critical ingredient in the ability of Iraqi Army units to assume responsibility for their own battle space. He gave the Iraqis the logistical support they needed to assume responsibility for their own battle space.
“These Marines did a great job,” said Maj. Gen. Richard A. Huck, the 2nd Marine Division Commanding General, who presented the awards. “I’m proud of each and every one of them.”
