MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJUENE N.C. -- MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, bid farewell to their former commanding officer, Lt. Col. Lawrence K. Hussy, and welcomed Lt. Col. Robert F. Revoir, during a change of command ceremony held aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Dec. 2.
Hussy assumed command of 2nd Recon Bn., May 2010 and from Nov. 2010 to June 2011, led the battalion during its deployment to Sangin Valley, Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
“A year and a half goes by pretty darn fast,” said Hussy. “I was told before coming here that the command was going to go fast, but I didn’t expect it to go this fast. When I took command of 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion I gave them four points to excel in; proficiency, discipline, esprit de corps and morale. Over the last 18 months they have exceeded all of my expectations as a commander. This has been the best time I have had in the Marine Crops I am forever humbled and deeply honored to have been a part of this command.”
The ceremony began with an invocation by the battalion chaplain, followed by the sounding of attention and the adjutant's call by the 2nd Marine Division band. A color detail from the battalion marched the colors across the field and the national anthem was played. During a traditional change of command ceremony, a report is recited in which the adjutant reports to the commanding officers that all are present for the ceremony. The passing of colors occurs next where the battalion sergeant major retrieves the Marine Corps colors and gives it to the outgoing commanding officer who then gives it to the incoming commanding officer.
“I can’t stress enough, what a privilege and honor it is to be joining this team,” said Revoir. “This battalion has a strong and proud history and the reputation you have as a reconnaissance battalion is outstanding. You Marines have helped build that reputation and I grateful to be a part of continuing to build that reputation and I look forward to working with all of you.”
Once Revoir finished addressing those in attendance there was a traditional pass and review where Marines from the battalion, in company formations led by their company commanders, marched by the outgoing and incoming commanding officers.
The ceremony concluded with the band playing Anchors Away and the Marines’ Hymn.
