CAMP LEJEUNE, NC, UNITED STATES --
With flags flying high in the cool North Carolina breeze, Marines and Sailors participated in the morning colors ceremony at Camp Lejeune, N.C., February. 26, 2019.
Servicemembers with 2nd Marine Division performed the quarterly ceremony at headquarters to celebrate the accomplishments of Marines and Sailors within the division over the previous quarter and the last year.
“I think it’s important that we frequently do these types of ceremonies to remind us of our nation and of excellence,” said Maj. Gen. David J. Furness, commanding general of 2d MarDiv. “Being a Marine or Sailor is all about excellence and these young men standing here before you represent that within the division.”
Recipients were recognized for awards such as Marine of the year, Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter, and Blue Jacket of the year.
“These are some of the best of the best Marines, NCOs, and Sailors that we have in the division,” said Sgt. Maj. Alex M. Dobson, sergeant major of 2d MarDiv. “Far too often we don’t take time out of our busy days to tell our Marines and Sailors that they’re doing great things.”
Each awardee competed against their peers at a professional military board and were judged on their physical fitness, job proficiency, and overall military bearing for each respective award.
