10th Marine Regiment Completed Exercise Rolling Thunder 21-1
5 Nov 2020

Marines from 10th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division conducted Exercise Rolling Thunder 21-1 in Fort Bragg, N.C. from October 5-15, 2020. Exercise Rolling Thunder is a regiment-sized live-fire training event designed to enhance their ability to provide timely, accurate, and lethal fires in support of 2d Marine Division.

Rolling Thunder 21-1 is a 10th Marine Regiment-planned, and -led event that incorporates all available troops in the regiment, which is approximately 1,100 Marines who fired a total of about 5,200 155mm artillery shells during the exercise. The Marines maneuvered against a simulated enemy force that possessed the same capabilities expected of a peer-level adversary.

The regiment trained to conduct command-and-control of units on the ground, indirect fire support of maneuver units utilizing M777 Howitzer cannons, counter-fire operations (also using the M777) and sensor operations to help detect an enemy force. All of these skills are mission-essential tasks that artillery units have to be able to perform at an elite level in order to be successful in combat, especially against peer and near-peer threats.
