Children ages 0-12 and exceptional family members of all ages have the opportunity to play, enjoy activities and collect Easter eggs aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C. The 2nd Marine Division Family Eggstravaganza is scheduled for 2 p.m., April 16, 2011, at William Pendleton Thompson (W.P.T.) Hill Field.

The purpose of the event is to bring together division personnel and their families in order to provide them a safe, enjoyable, and family oriented environment.

“The event is awesome, it’s all about smiles on faces, looking up at the bunny and getting a picture, and of course the candy is not bad,” said Ann E. Morey, the family readiness officer for 2nd Marine Division.

Morey and other volunteers are currently working hard to organize the event. Morey estimates around 3,500 people are scheduled to attend.

“I think families are always appreciative of the opportunity to do something together,” said Morey. “Military families love to come together with other military families and this event offers them the ability to do that.”

Whether rain or shine, Morey and her team of volunteers say the event is going to happen, however, in the event it rains, the activities will take place in the Goettge Memorial field house located adjacent to W.P.T. field.

Staff Sgt. Damian P. Smith, the 2nd Marine Division deputy family readiness officer and father of two boys, said, “The FROs are here to support the Marines as much as possible and especially the families of deployed Marines. I think this is great chance for families to have a nice time.”

Everything at the event is free for the. The egg hunts will have different sections for different aged children and will also have an area for family members who have difficulty with mobility.

Event contributors include division commanders and staff, division family readiness, the Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital, the American Red Cross, Exceptional Family Member Program and Marine Corps Community Services.
