Seeley, a machine gunner with 4th Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, kneels down in front of a photo of fallen Lance Cpl. Adam J. Marines and Sailors with Camp Pendleton, Calif., -based 1st Battalion, 5th Marines mourned the loss of 21-year-old Strain, a machine gunner with Company B, who fell on Ramadi's urban battlefield Aug. 3 while fighting terror. CAMP HURRICANE POINT Ar Ramadi, Iraq (Aug. 9, 2005) - Lance Cpl. Jose O. Martinez, a machine gunner with 4th Platoon, Company W, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, narrowly escaped death June 11. The 22-year-old from El Paso, Texas was hit in the face, neck and the back of his head by shrapnel from an improvised explosive device while conducting a night mission with his Marine comrades. For his wounds, Martinez was awarded a Purple Heart during a ceremony here Aug. 2. Martinez is in Iraq a second time with 1st Battalion, 5th Marines in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
