CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, RAMADI, Iraq - Lance Cpl. Jonathan Price, an infantryman with Company L, Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, hold up an Iraqi child reaching for candy being given out by the Marines on patrol here. Price was fatally wounded while conducting operations in Al Anbar's provincial capitol city of Ramadi Jan. 13. A service was held here Jan. 17 to honor his contributions to his unit and fellow Marines. Cpl. Marco A. Jimenez, a 22-year-old Powar, Calif., native stands in front of the Light Armored Vehicle in which he is a scout team leader here today. Jimenez was functioning as an advisor and additional security for Iraqi soldiers manning a traffic control point on the outskirts of Ar Rutbah, Iraq. The TCPs are designed to screen vehicles entering Ar Rutbah, which has seen a high level of insurgent and criminal activity recently. - Cpl. Marco A. BARWANA, Iraq- Rockets, mortars, and bags of repellant, found buried in the outskirts of the city were found by an interpreter, working with Marines from 2d Platoon, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment. The weapons were then stacked by the Marines and by Sailors from Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 6 and then destroyed with C-4. 2d Marine Division is deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to conduct counter-insurgency operations to isolate and neutralize anti-Iraqi forces; support the continued development of Iraqi Security Force; support Iraqi reconstruction and democratic elections; and to facilitate the creation of a secure environment that enables Iraqi self-reliance and self-governance.
