FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - "The Marines have landed!" should have been the phrase of the day here May 6 as the troops of 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, rushed out of their Assault Amphibian Vehicles onto the sunny Florida coastline to simulate seizing an enemy beachhead. (May 9, 2006)- Petty Officer 3rd Class, Christian Rueda, a corpsman with Headquarters Co., Headquarters Battalion, was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Rueda went to the aid of his fellow comrades before being pulled aside by a fellow corpsman who took care of his wounds. (Official U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Athanasios L. (May 4, 2006)- Marines from 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment attended a week of courses held at the base library here where they learned basic maintenance, safety and vehicle operation of High-Mobility Multi Wheeled Vehicles. The course was designed to help prevent accidents in incidental drivers who are not specifically trained as motor vehicle operators in the Corps. (Official U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Pablo Mayorga, who gave his life serving in Iraq fighting in the Global War on Terrorism. Mayorga's widow, Paola, was given the Purple Heart which was posthumously awarded to Pablo. Photo by Cpl.
