Private First Class Augustin Melendez, a 22-year-old special intelligence communicator and administrator with 2d Radio Battalion, 2d Marine Division, stands guard outside of the division's combat operations center. The Roselle Park, N.J. native rotates between guarding the COC, where all 2d Marine Division missions are tracked, to handling insurgent detainees and even guarding the mess hall while Marines and other service members eat.
