AR RAMADI, Iraq (March 25, 2005) - Twenty-two-year-old Johnny L. Alvarez, rifleman, 1st Squad, 1st Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, of Garden Grove, Calif., turns to look behind him while patrolling a road with his squad. Leathernecks with 1st Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, searched several houses in the western part of the city here March 25 for a man they suspect is a member of the jihad group Jaysh Mohamed, which is connected with producing improvised explosive devises and has been linked to several IED attacks. They also searched for illegal weapons, weapons caches and checked identification cards of the men in each house they searched. The Marines were accepted well by the people they searched and by the children who gathered around them in the streets.
