CAMP HURRICANE POINT, Ar Ramadi, Iraq (April 5, 2005) - Sergeant David J. Oconnell, machine gunner, Jump Platoon, Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, points to a hole in a Humvee made by shrapnel from an improvised explosive devise. The 26-year-old from Salem, Conn., was riding the vehicle's turret two weeks ago when it hit the IED. Oconnell took shrapnel to the forehead but returned to full duty the following day after being injured. He and three other warriors with the infantry battalion were presented Purple Hearts during a ceremony here. Photo by Cpl. Tom Sloan
