AR RAMADI, Iraq (April 17, 2005) - Corporal Richard A. Gutierrez, a team leader, with 3rd Squad, 3rd Platoon, Company C, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, turns around during a patrol through a portion of the city here and signals to his Marines and Iraqi Intervention Forces members. Fifteen IIF members accompanied Marines with 3rd Platoon, Company C, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, and, together, conducted a combat patrol. The three-hour joint-mission was geared towards fine-tuning the IIF members' patrolling techniques by providing them with hands-on training in a combat environment. The 23-year-old Salinas, Calif., native and other Marines with 3rd Platoon, Company C, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, showed their IIF counterparts proper dispersion, how to post security and set up over watches and other patrolling fundamentals.
