SAQLAWIYAH, Iraq - Cpl. Joseph R. Piner, assistant team leader with STA (Surveillance, Target, and Acquisition) Platoon, Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, crouches atop a rooftop here April 26 and scans the horizons for insurgent activity. The snipers serve as the eyes and ears for the battalion, covertly keeping a watchful eye for suspicious activity, such as insurgents laying improvised explosive devices along convoy and patrol transit routes.
