AR RAMADI, Iraq (May 13, 2005) -Private First Class Bryan J. Nagel, a squad automatic machine gunner with 2nd Squad, 2nd Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, walks past his comrade, Lance Cpl. Justin R. Corry, an assault man with 2nd Squad, 2nd Platoon, who took a knee under the shade of a palm tree in the city here during a patrol. Nagel, 20, of Jamestown, N.D., and his fellow 2nd Platoon warriors conducted a three-hour presence patrol through a portion of their company's area of operations notorious for insurgent activity. The Marines encountered sporadic machine gun fire from insurgents during their mission, which was geared toward disrupting enemy activity.
