AR RAMADI Iraq (July 5, 2005) - Corporal Brett J. Springer, a TOW gunner and section leader for 1st Section, 2nd Platoon, Company W, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, searches the balcony of a building for weapons and improvised explosive device making material during a mission in the city here July 5. The 28-year-old from Kearney, Neb., and Marines with 2nd Platoon conducted a proactive operation to encourage Ar Ramadi citizens to move their trashcans off the streets and place them in the yards and behind their homes. The Iraqi government recently distributed new, orange, industrial-sized trash containers throughout the city for citizens to use to clean up rubbish, but Marine officials with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines suspect insurgents will exploit them for terror and place IEDs in them.
