AR RAMADI Iraq (July 25, 2005) - Sergeant Fidel A. Alcoces, the platoon sergeant for 2nd Platoon, Company A, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, stands in front of a vehicle with its hood up during a mission in the city here July 25. A smoke bomb in the distance shoots thick, gray smoke into the air give 29-year-old Alcoces from San Antonio, Texas and his fellow Marines cover from enemy snipers while they operated in the open. Marines with the Camp Pendleton, Calif., -based infantry battalion conducted a battalion-wide operation in the city's marketplace, where they searched vehicles and personnel for weapons and improvised explosive making material.
