NEAR LAKE THARTHAR, Iraq (Jan. 8, 2006) - Lance Cpl. Brandon M. Mitchell, a New London, Wis. native, and other combat engineers with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment sweeps around a village looking for weapons caches here Jan. 8. The Marines were part of Operation Long Horn, a company-sized mission to gather intelligence on a relatively unknown 2,400 square kilometer area of open desert and small villages.
