Five-year-old Diego E. Santiago gives a thumbs-up before a ceremony for his honorary appointment to the rank of chief petty officer in the Navy at the Jacksonville, N.C., United Service Organization building March 30. The appointment for Diego, who was diagnosed with a form of terminal cancer, was approved by the master chief petty officer of the Navy. "It's one of [Diego's] dreams [to be in the Navy] that he's not going to be able to realize."
