CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, AR RAMADI, Iraq - With the new technological advancements on the battlefield, the Marine Corps recently improved a piece of field equipment that has remained virtually unchanged since the Civil War - the tourniquet. The need for an improved tourniquet was recognized in January this year when the 1st Marine Division began turning over to 2d Marine Division. Officials realized the impact a new tourniquet would have getting Marines back in the fight. Several tourniquets ran a gamut of tests, but only one made the cut to be carried by Marines into combat - the Combat Application Tourniquet System (CATS).
