U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Stephen DeBoard/Released 071104-M-0000S-003.jpg
Nov 4, 2007
A Navy corpsman with third platoon, Company L, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, exchanges greetings with local residents and shop owners while on patrol in Fallujah's Nazaal district, Nov. 6. The platoon's patrols are less about combat and violence of action than they are about getting out into the community as neighbors and taking the pulse of the neighborhood. This approach gives unit commanders a better picture of what's taking place on the ground, and the Marines a way to affect change in the former insurgent bastion of Fallujah.
