Qasim Marai Awwad, the mayor of Rutbah, Iraq, and Sgt. Juan L. Pichardo of 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 8, distribute stuffed animals to children at Shahira al-Joulan Girls Primary School in western Iraq, Feb. 16, 2009. The stuffed animals were sent to the Marines in Iraq by Beanies for Baghdad, an official military 501(c) non-profit member of the Department of Defense’s America Supports You program. The Marines and Sailors of 2/25 arrived in Iraq in September and have visited six Rutbah-area primary schools and distributed toys, school supplies and sporting goods in an effort to form good relationships with their host community and to reinforce of the credibility of local Iraqi leadership.
