Cpl. Jarrod Knorr interacts with Afghan children at the Marjah District Center, Helmand province, Afghanistan, March 3. The 22-year-old Adrian, Mich., native is a vehicle commander for the Personal Security Detachment with 3rd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, and is currently deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The PSD escorts the battalion commander and other important personnel throughout the battalion’s area of operation. “I love coming out here and working with these guys,” said Knorr, an Adrian High School graduate. “Going out on missions every day makes this deployment fly by, and there is never a boring day.” The battalion, also known as “Striking 3/9,” is currently assigned to Regimental Combat Team 1, 2nd Marine Division (Forward).
