A child bashfully gazes into the camera as Marines patrol the area outside the base. The Marines with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, do their best to build rapport with the local populace. Children here usually help out by farming in the fields or taking care of younger siblings, while adult family members work under the hot Afghan sun in temperatures reaching into the hundreds.
