A Marine with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division (Forward), sweeps the ground for improvised explosive devices. The unit was the first unit to receive the ballistic underwear and has become a standard part of their proper protective equipment. A significant function of the ballistic underwear is their ability to prevent fine sands and other small particles hurled up by the initial blast of an IED from lodging into exposed tissue and infecting wounds.
