New Orleans native Cpl. Mason Panyko, an artilleryman with 1st Battalion, 12 Marine Regiment, assists an Afghan National Army soldier to properly calibrate a 122 mm D30 howitzer. Panyko, who escaped the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, joined the Marine Corps to follow in his uncle’s footsteps.
