Afghan National Army soldiers with the 1st Kandak, 1st Brigade, 215th Corps, patrol the street outside of Patrol Base Sphin Ghar. The security in Nawa stands at the cusp of transition, according to Mercer Island, Wash., native Lt. Col. Tyler Zagurski, the battalion commander for 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment. The soldiers joined members of 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, in the Nawa Victory Walk, a patrol through the district to demonstrate to residents the capability of local security forces.
