Marines from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit attached to Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, get off their feet before the next patrol. The Marines supported Operation Double Check, patrolling for no less than four hours at a time and disposing of more than 11 improvised explosive devices in less than two weeks. With the added weight of their equipment the EOD technicians carry, plus their required personal protective gear and ammunition, which weighs more than 20 pounds, the Marines try to get off their feet whenever they can. It is not unusual for the Marines to wear their boots for more than 18 hours a day during operations. Their feet are just as important as the weapons they carry, and they take any opportunity to take care of them, given the environment.
