Marines and sailors with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, hike nine miles during the early hours of April 27. The service members suit up wearing nearly 50 pounds of personal protective equipment and carry M16A4 service rifles and M4 carbines to emulate the weight worn during a patrol in a deployed environment. Whether in the humid North Carolina air or the searing Afghan heat, the service members must be able to push themselves to the limit in order to accomplish the mission. The battalion trains to increase their endurance to ensure success when the nation calls for them.
