Marines and sailors with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, hike down a gravel road during the morning hours of April 27. The Marines use the battalion hike as a way to build camaraderie within the unit, as well as ensure the service members are in peak physical condition for future deployments. Building endurance within the battalion is a key factor of increasing success during a deployment. Whether the Marines spend hours sweeping for improvised explosive devices or searching mud compounds in the 120-degree Afghan heat, endurance plays an important role.
