Brooklyn, N.Y., native Maj. Gen. John A. Toolan, the commanding general of 2nd Marine Division, speaks May 1 to Navy chaplains who worked within his command during a recent deployment to Afghanistan. Toolan spoke after the presentation of the John H. Craven Servant Leadership Award to Lake Orion, Mich., native Navy Capt. Steven Brown for his work as the chaplain of II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward). “For the chaplains deployed for this last year, you made a big difference; a lot of it had to do with the leadership that Steve provided to you,” said Toolan. “Besides getting the mind, bodies and spirits of our soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the right place, which is a combined effort, … it’s putting it all together so our guys can fight with a happy heart.”
