Sergeant Maj. Jonathan D. Martin (right) takes charge as the battalion sergeant major of 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., March 3, 2014. The battalion commander (left) passes on the Non-Commissioned Officer Sword to symbolize a transfer of total responsibility, authority and accountability between the sergeants major. Martin is returning to the United States from a tour of duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he was the company first sergeant for Marine Corps Security Force Co. This is Martin’s first billet as a sergeant major since being promoted in Feb. 2014.
