Sergeant Maj. Jonathan D. Martin (right), the new sergeant major of 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, salutes Lt. Col. Jeffrey R. Stevenson during the Post and Relief Ceremony aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune March 3, 2014. Martin relieved Sgt. Maj. Timonthy J. Rudd as the battalion sergeant major. The ceremony is a time-honored tradition to represent a transfer of total responsibility, authority and accountability between the sergeants major. Martin is returning to the United States from a tour of duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he was the company first sergeant for Marine Corps Security Force Co. This is Martin’s first billet as a sergeant major since being promoted in Feb. 2014.
