Lance Cpl. Rob Govitz, a Lapeer, Mich., native and geospatial intelligence analyst with 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, monitors underwater sensory equipment from his Zodiac boat at Camp Pendleton, Calif., July 15, 2014. The battalion's Marines surveyed several beaches at the base by using positioning, sonar and depth finding equipment to test their ability to travel beyond their base of operations at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and conduct detailed surveys of aquatic environments. The Marines teamed up with members of the Navy's Naval Oceanography Special Warfare Command during the training as a way to collaborate and share lessons learned from their respective programs. Their successful deployment of the survey program to California helped prove their concept has the potential to reach out and support Marine units in various training and operational environments in the future.
