The mission of the 2d Marine Division (2d MARDIV) is to generate, train, and certify forces in order to conduct expeditionary operations in support of II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) campaign objectives and crisis response tasking. On order, 2d MARDIV will plan and execute Division-level ground combat element operations as part of a Marine Air-Ground Task Force or Naval Expeditionary Force.
Recently, the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division took the steps to advance the Marine Corps into a new territory, conducting a squad attack using a NEROS Archer strike drone to surveil and attack ahead of the squad during unit training at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, on Jan. 23, 2026.

From December 4-7, 2025, U.S. Marines with 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division put the Marine Corps’ newly developed tool for amphibious warfare, the amphibious combat vehicle, to the test during a series of shore-to-ship and ship-to-shore exercises aboard the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Gunston Hall off the coast of North Carolina, as part of Naval Integration Training Package 2.
