Major Gen. W. Lee Miller Jr., the assistant division commander of 2nd Marine Division, speaks about his time working alongside Sgt. Maj. John C. Carman of Toledo, Ohio, during Carman’s retirement ceremony May 11. Miller praised Carman’s performance as the sergeant major of 2nd Marine Division’s Force Generation Element when he was acting as the divison’s commanding general throughout 2011 and into 2012.“This past year and a half could have been the worst of times I’ve ever had but it wasn’t,” said Miller. “It was a great time because of the sage wisdom and advice Sgt.
