First Lt. Christopher Hayes with 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 8, instructs several National Directorate of Security soldiers on patrolling techniques in the Afghan National Army compound in Musa Qal’eh, Afghanistan, Jan. 31. The NDS soldiers received classes on weapons handling, room clearing and patrolling techniques. The National Directorate of Security is one of the federal branches of the Afghan National Security Forces whose job is to apprehend and detain individuals involved in terrorism. “The NDS soldiers play a big role in finding and recovering Improvised Explosive Devises while providing security in Musa Qal’eh and collecting information on Taliban members and individuals engaging in terrorism in the district,” said 1st Lt. Anthony Bramante with 1st Bn., 8th Marines.
