U.S. Marine Corps Pvt. Spencer Soodan, a Oak Park, Illinois, native and a rifleman with 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division, poses for a photo during a scout course on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Jan. 10, 2023. “A big reason I joined the Marine Corps was because my dad was a Marine and I wanted to continue that legacy.” said Soodan. “It’s pretty insane because he was also in 2d Marine Division so being here and talking to him about it is surreal. It’s really cool to bring him back on base, have him show me his old stomping grounds and see how everything has changed.” The purpose of the scout course is to enhance lethality and increase long range weapon proficiency.
